Vacancy description

Job purpose

To work as part of the Site Services team carrying out routine maintenance and repairs to the buildings and services.  Assisting with alterations to the site and services.

The job description is written to show where the apprentice should be at the end of the apprenticeship.  It is expected that this person will come in with little or no experience and will be trained up through a mixture of on site and college training.

Principal accountabilities

Undertake building services engineering planned preventative maintenance and rectification within buildings

  1. Carry out fault finding, diagnosis and identify required work.
  2. De-commission, repair and re-commission work on various services as required including, but not limited to:
    1. Plumbed services
    2. Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning equipment
    3. Building Maintenance System controls
  3. Contribute to identifying improvements to the installed equipment and services.
  4. Completing the records for all work carried out.

General duties

  1. Carry out general building maintenance around the site as directed by Site Services supervisor.
  2. Assist the JMTC Site Services Manager and Site Services Supervisor to identify maintenance and general upkeep requirements for the site.
  3. Assist as part of the team with carrying out daily plant inspections and readings.
  4. Assist with furniture moves as required.
  5. Respond to breakdowns or other problems around the site as skills allow.
  6. Assist other members of the Site Service Maintenance team.
  7. Assist with maintaining the Site Service Department records.
  8. Carry out fork lift truck operations as necessary.
  9. To carry out any other duties that are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.

Health & Safety

  1. Carry out all duties with regard to both legal and site Health & Safety requirements.
  2. Monitor the operation of Site Service contractors to ensure they are working with regard to both legal and site Health & Safety requirements.
  3. Undertake work to ensure compliance with legislation, or arranging for it to be done where necessary

A minimum of five GCSE's (or equivalent qualifications) at grade C (Grade 5) and above including English, Science and Maths.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be opportunities to progress onto higher level qualifications to support your career development within Johnson Matthey.

Things to consider

You will be required to wear suitable PPE, including eye protection, foot protection and suitable clothing at all times.

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship delivered over 4 years.  First year basic training, PEO & BTEC Diploma, delivered at external college/provider.  Subsequent years spent in company following company training plan, against which an NVQ is awarded.
