Vacancy description

  • Comprehensive training programme and completion of a portfolio of evidence to support an NVQ;
  • Produce technical work using a range of production methods, including specialist PCB assembly and manufacture;
  • Working to our Professional Safety Culture;
  • Company relating training and development ;
  • Company placements;
  • Project work;
  • Undertake a range of mechanical engineering activities and/or electronic engineering activities;
  • Further development in functional skills (literacy/numeracy/IT);
  • Working to our Company Behavioural Standards;

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

STEM subjects with any additional supporting qualifications in Engineering; Electronics and Resistant Materials or similar are strongly recommended.  Desirable but not essential; able to demonstrate active interest in engineering through voluntary work, clubs, societies and / or work experience.

Personal qualities

We are seeking candidates with a passion for engineering and a mind set to match; quick and willing to learn and able to pick up new technologies, think laterally with a ‘can do’ approach to problem solving. Candidates will have a flexible and proactive attitude at the same time demonstrating motivation to meet or exceed expected standards in challenging circumstances.  You will need to be able to communicate at all levels within the business, have good time management skills and work well as part of a team, sharing knowledge with colleagues and demonstrating enthusiasm for developing your skills.  You must be well organised and adaptable with the ability to complete specific tasks in a precise and methodical manner.

Desired qualifications

A minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications) at grade 5 and above including English, Science and Maths, however a grade 6 would be prefered in Maths. Any supporting qualifications in Engineering, Electronics and Resistant Materials or similar are strongly recommended and will help support your application.

Future prospects

Full time employment with Ultra Electronics.

Things to consider

Training modules during the first two years will be carried out at the Southampton Engineering Training Association (SETA) facility. Therefore, you will be required to travel to SETA and stay away from home if your daily journey is too long for commuting.

Training provider

Training to be provided

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship delivered over 4 years.  First year basic training, PEO & BTEC Diploma, delivered by external college/provider to reflect the Standard / Framework requirements. Subsequent years spent in company following company training plan, against which an NVQ is awarded.  Day release continues throughout years 2 – 4.
